Fastest rise in UK permanent hiring since 2022. I thought it was worth sharing some positive sentiment.
The latest KPMG/REC Report on Jobs showing that permanent placements have finally stabilised for the first time after 45 consecutive months of decline since late 2022.
Stock prices in the big listed UK recruitment companies have been soaring this year. These are companies that have taken a real battering over the last few years, with all-time-low share prices.
What I’ve been seeing on the ground
This all matches what I’ve been seeing on the ground across Leadership hiring for VC/PE backed companies post March and throughout the summer. With my own (completely unscientific) pulse check, I’ve seen candidates juggling multiple interviews again, sometimes balancing multiple offers, which is always a good sign of confidence growing in the job market.
Sure, I’d call it stabilisation more than growth. But after the last few years, stabilisation is genuinely good news.
Demand for anything AI-related
Demand for anything AI-related is especially strong. Series A companies, a segment that’s been under funded for a long time, is starting to move again.
I think that September through December is going to be really active and will be focused on targeted upgrades for now rather than big hiring campaigns.
These hiring cycles are hard to predict
It’s hard to predict these hiring cycles, it’s certainly nothing to do with overall UK sentiment maybe more to do with specific sectors like Technology, Financial Services, Engineering and Healthcare all fuelled by Venture Capital, Private Equity and a soaring US stock market, typically these waves last at least a year so fingers crossed.
